DMRR

It runs but only for 2-4 Mins at a time.
There is something in the electronics that is stopping it.

There is a Battery monitoring system on them and they think mine could be Censored
Its just a waiting game for my in the mean time.

To say I'm a little pi55ed off is an under statement.

They are not claiming on my warranty for all this work. They are doing it because they have told me every time that its working and every time i have proved them wrong. Its a customer relations exercise for me.
I have no problem going down there and kicking up a right fuss in the showroom.
Because Land rover are now involved they all need to see it done and dusted. 2020 Porsche Panamera Turbo Hybrid (V FAST)

If they can get it to run with the diagnostic tool, or at all then it sounds like the problem could be elsewhere, on the few 4.4's I have had a tool around in, off forecourts, they have invariably displayed the low battery warning before we started out!

That they are now pointing towards the battery management may be a good sign, running for 4 mins should be unlikely to drop the voltage low enough to shut it down. Surely they should be able to rule this in or out by simply connecting to a constant supply? There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Is it getting fuel?
The only reason I ask is, ours runs for around 3 minutes then stops. This is the normal cycle time from initial starting up, then fuel dosing pump starting, heater detecting flame and then going into full operation mode. When it shuts down, it should take a minute or two to purge the fuel then cool down and shut off.

I have been playing about with ours all this weekend. I removed the unit, stripped it down and cleaned the combustion chamber (sooted up). The heat exchanger was spotless. Re-built it back up and fitted to the car.
Fired it up and it goes through the cycle of starting up, but then no fuel, runs for a further minute or two then shuts down.

Upon checking the dosing pump, it wasn't working. Located the dosing pump (a pig to get to) above the rear differential. Removed it and checked the pump, pump works fine, re-fitted it but still doesn't work. After looking around the internet, the dosing pump receives its dosing level from the heater unit itself. There are plenty of topics and comments about the unit and the circuit board. Looks like ours is duff as there are a couple of resistors on the board that go open circuit so I will have to strip the unit down again next weekend to check the board and replace said resistors.

Could be a fuel problem with yours, but if they have fitted a new heater unit, it could be the wiring.
They should be able to test it with the Webasto diagnostic kit and see exactly what is happening.

Seems there would be a great opportunity for someone on here that could take our cars and sort out these FBH problems, surprised no one has offered their services

any takers?

there are no takers

just because the landrover software is the nightmare, if the stealer cant sort it out with the factory diagnostic kit and webasto will not sell landrover programed ones off the shelf what hope have DIY,ers got

the heater side of things are easy to fault find and repair but connect them to a late ff you may aswell just give up on parking heat

These units seem to be similar to the units used on our diesel trains.
Our main problem was water leaks due to poor hose connections.
So …. ask if they have tested the water system under pressure as the boiler unit will fire but due to no water pressure the sensor will cancel the signal to prevent the boiler from over heating and sooting up.
If its any use to you in your problem.

They have however had it all working Rolling Eyes
They are saying that there nothing wrong with the FBH but the battery monitoring system is at fault.

I know I'm four years late on this, but somebody may be able to make use of what I have discovered. The FBH will only work if the battery voltage is high enough - otherwise there is a risk the FBH flattens the battery and you won't be able to start the car. Yes - I guess you already know this. I presume that the heating designers have erred on the cautious side and set the voltage threshold on the high side.

In practice, this means that you have to drive for at least half an hour if you have a new or good battery and possibly for longer if the battery is a few years old or bit below par before you can use the FBH ? So don't expect to be able to warm your car in the morning unless you've given the car a really good run the night before.

I've got around this problem on an older Landrover by powering the FBH from an auxiliary battery. The options for keeping this charged are a split relay charger or (my preferred) a solar panel.

Mine is not kicking in at the moment. I’m going to put the car on the Ctek tonight to see what it’s like in the week. I guess that the voltage is a bit low. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

You can do a simple basic check. Use a battery charger to be certain the battery is fully charged. If the FBH is OK, then it should start and run with no problems. If it won't start, then there are only three possibilities: the battery is on its way out, the FBH is faulty, or there is no fuel supply to the FBH. My experience of Webastos is that they are very reliable - apart from the water circulation pump. Give them fuel and a 12v supply and they invariably work fine. If it starts and runs for just a few minutes then shuts down, put your hands on the heater pipes to see how hot they are. If they are hot, then the chance is the water circulation pump has failed. The built-in temperature switch will have detected the water getting too hot and will shut the heater down.

It was the battery. Land rover admitted they had a bad batch of batteries, they had changed mine three times.
They installed a different brand and it worked faultlessly for the time i owned the car. Thumbs Up 2020 Porsche Panamera Turbo Hybrid (V FAST)

Guys don't forget the FBH won't work if fuel level is too low.
Not sure, might be 1/4 of a tank.
. Cheers, Greg
