Wales 2004 Range Rover HSE Td6 Adriatic Blue
Diesel leak, engine bay

OK did a search on the high pressure fuel pump leaking, didn't find a lot. I've had a leak at the front of the engine bay, but, only when it was cold and the FBH was on. Took it to a local 'specialist' on Monday and he tracked it down to the H.P. pump, said it wouldn't be too expensive, as he done pumps before on Freelanders and Discoverys.
Eventually got back to me and said it required a new pump. £550 plus fitting (£850 in all). As I couldn't find any links on this here, I'm a bit suspicious. Should I be? Once it's in the garage and they've stripped it down, bit awkward to ask for it back without fixing the fault. Will be collecting tomorrow and I will ask to see the old pump.
To be fair to the car, this is the only real expensive problem since I've had the car.

The HP pumps can leak from the "heads" on the pump body. More often than not, the hose clips that secure the pipes to the pump can be loose, and make it appear as though the leak is from the HP pump Thumbs Up

Mine had a leak on the back of the h.p pump which was the main feed pipe to the fuel rail. It was a pig to get to as the inlet manifold had to come off but only needed nipping up Thumbs Up good luck and hope yours is that simple.

Hi there, just wondering how you got on with the new pump?
Did it fix the leaking issue and on closer inspection, did you get the old pump checked to see where the leak was actually coming from?.
I have a leak from the top of my pump and looks like it's a pump replacement for me too.
Can't find any help on here to see how it's done, ie step by step instructions or pics.
If anyone has a link to show this, please pop it on here to let us see how it's done.

Ok,back off hols.
The bill fop replacing the pump came to about a £1000. Didn't get the old one back, just wanted to leave really.
He found a refurbished pump for about £650. I have now tracked down a firm that will supply a pump for £250 exchange, £350 without.
They guanrantee it and supply a load of other stuff.

I don't know what special tools are required, I've seen a link on youtube to carry out the task.
It did fix the leak, only problem I had was a coolant leak, this was down to it being a push fit connection.
Been ok since.
