Wonder were the government will go with this one

It's time that governments stopped backing winners. They need to set standards and let the market deliver. They're doing it again with battery cars, and you can imagine a similar report coming out in 10 years saying the same thing.

I have a suspicion that the whole catalytic converter thing was a similar distraction from the real goal which ought to be reduced consumption. If we burnt less of whatever fuel, we would have lower emissions and less reliance on external energy sources.
