Hi can someone confirm the service interval for changing the timing chains / 'cambelt' on a Range Rover 3.0 diesel (BMW) engine. I was initially told 105k miles then 150k miles ? Just need to be sure as I have now reached 104k miles and due for a service in the next month. Steve

I thought it was meant to last the life of the engine? |

Thanks for the quick reply. Wasn't expecting that answer but good news if correct. Mind you, what do they define as the life of an engine - is it a specific mileage or just the point where it totally fails and is not worth repairing any more? Steve

There is no mileage specified. It doesn't mean they wont wear but it would become pretty obvious if there was a need to change it. Sometimes they do fail but they don't fall into the same category as belts.

It's up until the chain snaps and wrecks the engine. |
