Diesel injector cleaners - any good?

With the reduction in fuel prices and the fact that I have been saving all my money for 3 years, I might actually be in a position soon to fill the Fatty up to the brim.

Can anyone recommend a good diesel injector cleaning additive please?

Do they make a difference or is it all in our heads?

They do make a difference.

Maybe less noticeable in a newer car, but mine is noticeably better with a dose every now and then.

Funny you should ask.
I have been given some Lucas injector cleaner, "Tune up in a bottle".
I don't know whether it is snake oil stuff, urban myth or whatever.
Never tried anything like it before, but seeing as its for nothing and a good proprietary brand, I might as well give it a go.
The engine I replaced in our motor had only done 15,000 miles, but when first started up had a sticking injector (it had been stood on a pallet for 7 years), cleared itself after a few cycles of starting up and idling.
I have done around 600 miles in it up to now and with a mixture of short town, short motorway journeys has averaged 21mpg.
I know the engine might still be a bit "tight" with the mileage, but should give the injectors a good clean out if anything.
Other people on here seem to use various brands of injector/fuel cleaner, so I can't see it doing any harm.

Haven't used injector cleaner in the FF Whistle

However, used to use it a couple of times a year on my TD5 defender, and it definitely was worth doing - engine ran sweeter after injector cleaner used - apparently it removes any gum and gunk, which with the very small nozzle sizes of modern injectors does make a difference.

I use Redex for diesel on a regular basis, normally every 4th full tank of fuel. I've used it on every car I've owned.
I've also used the additives available for getting rid of water from the fuel tank as well.

I choose to believe that they work. Travelling around in circles again.

+1 for redex used it on my old td5 as well. when i did the injector o'rings and seals on it, the injectors were as clean as a whistle, at 175,000 mls. so carn't see it does any harm. Thumbs Up
