Ideally you'll want to stick to the same frame as then you know it will all bolt off and onto the new one but there are likley other frames that all the bits will fit onto, it depends on the rear suspension mounting points more than anything.

Thanks.. I think you're maybe right - if I can find a frame exactly the same, it would make it a much simpler job for me

I have built a few road and mountain bikes up - the only part which is likely to be restrictive (but still not unique) is the rear suspension, otherwise parts should be easily "transferable" - but you'll obviously have to re-cable it.

All the parts should be interchangeable with a new frame except the rear Genius shock, which is a specific Scott design for the Ransom (I have a carbon Ransom - awesome bike, I love it!)

I suppose ideally we should be looking for a new one, but he's really getting into road biking now, and would like to upgrade his road bike. So is desperately saving his paper round money.
