My 2006 4,2SC. Whistling and Squealing. YouTube Video.

Mornin' all.

I may have mentioned in the past about my 4.2SC Whistling and or Squealing.
When I bough the car, the seller said that the garage he bought from "Bent the air pipe" when servicing before releasing the car to him.

It runs okay, and the pan pipes sound disappears after a couple of miles but the squealing (used to abate after a 5 mile run) now remains at all times.

I have uploaded a video to YouTube, See link below.
I made the video at night with the windows down to maximise the sound quality.

Any ideas please?

TIA.

Paul.

Thanks for the replies.

My first thought for the squealing was water pump bearing but I have no idea what the pan pipes thing is all about.

Any further ideas please chaps?

your car profile is missing so i assume you have a 4.2 so here's the bits that are at the front that might be making the noise,

Sounds unhealthy and not a noise I've heard from ours. Interested to find out what it is.

Thumbs Up

Can't hear it whilst I am at work, but mine has a whining noise which I am convinced is the alternator. Local dealer says not done many/any alternators on a 4.2! turning on all the lights, heated screens and heater made the noise a lot worse and then almost goes when everything is turned off again.

cheers Alex

I have a similar squeel on mine on first starting up , I've come to the conclusion the water pump is on its way out , pump arrived today , does anyone know if its much of a job on the 4.2 s/c or is it a simple whip off and on (I doubt it looking at access Laughing )

any online tutorial anywhere??

cheers

quite different to the 4.4 Stan, looks as if shroud needs to come out which also looks as if aircon refrigerant needs to be dumped , if my mechanic doesn't take it on (mot place who does minor works) looks like a job for the summer to me Confused

probably easier to take the grill and top slam panel off and retrieve the full rad pack and attack it from there , now is there anything else I should do when I'm in there?

wish I'd changed it out a year ago when I rebuilt the damn thing Big Cry

My 4.2 S/C also has a slight "chuffing" noise when it is cold, which eases off when it gets warm.

Nothing like as loud as yours and does not have the whistling, but I will watch this thread with interest... 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

The squeaking is made worse by moist conditions. It was hardly noticeable in the warmer months and would soon abate but the winter weather has seen it worsen and stay even after a good 10 mile run, so in she goes for fear something gives way.

The pan pipes is possibly a bent pipe or perhaps a blockage with berries from my neighbours tree, Whistle
