Not sure how to link to article, but you'll get the idea.

Not sure how any of the cars will be dealt with. I remember around 20 years ago seeing a brand new SAAB (which had been a sinker) that had been donated free of charge to the motoring department at Stockport College for the students to work on on the strict proviso that it never went on to the open roads. Lovely car, don't think it had even covered a mile.

As its not JLR's problem? Presumably covered off by insurance? God only knows where these cars could end up? Does anyone know where they were heading for? Im presuming none would be tied down if only travelling to Europe!

Given that the ship is at an angle of about 45deg would in not be reasonable to expect all the Land Rover products to be sitting on their wheels as normal waiting to be driven off when the ship is re-floated? Whistle

Lol!!!

I think I've read on the disco forum it was headed to Germany...

I think that a few are now totally under water looking at the pictures of it on its side so they will be cat b straight away and stink of fish for ever!

Makes you wonder if they go back to the factory and stripped for parts that then get shoved into other cars or if the insurance co just gets them all sent off to auction... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

^ Not sure thats true....

As far as I am aware it is sitting at 45 Degrees where beached and totally watertight ready to be refloated, why would water have got in to any of the decks? Cars properly strapped down should be fine.

If you look round the hull there are quite large air openings, I'm pretty sure that's one of the decks..

Also while it may be able to be refloated it's sinking slowly into a sand bank. That stuff gets in quicker than a hookers knickers vanish on a busy night.. FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

They still write it all off. JLR will have a big insurance pay out - why would they accept the warrentee risk of damaged parts when they've already had compensation?

It'll all be scrapped, which is a bit of a shame unless you're a new owner wanting a perfect new car.

It may still be written off but they can retain salvage and just set a few guys to go over them all and rip off bits that could be reused without issue, say bits of interior trim and such... Over 1200 jlr vehicles they would save a small fortune with some bits. Think of all the leather interiors for a start that may not be damaged, infotainment systems, exhausts, and engines. Yeah all the panels and glass could be stuffed but an engine can still be as much as £12k retail. They don't even have to re-use them, just crate them up ready to go out as a parts sale... FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Looking at this picture of the bow if those slits are open to the Decks then even in mild sea's its going to pour in let alone high seas!

I suspect they must be for some other purpose....

ALSO:

Eric Williams, whose company Williams Shipping is working with the salvage team, said he was told the cars were well strapped down and not as badly damaged as feared.

And maybe a refloat on Wednesday....
