I tried both 59.002 mph and 59.004 mph but they weren't quite as good.

Incidentally, if you leave the tailgate open and blow your farts out of it you can reduce your fuel consumption still further.

Alternatively, buy a bicycle.

I drive a v8 so can't answer, but I think Kurt must be getting the best mpg this Christmas week, he must be a vegetarian, and there's plenty of left overs in his fridge...

I got av of 41.4 mpg doing average cruising speed of 65mph, mpg went down to 28mpg at av of 85mph

Very interested in the MPG of the TDV6 as I hear it can be quite spectacular.

Incidentally I get around 27mpg cruising at 70 ish in my ancient TD6. The most i've ever got from it over a tank full is 30.3mpg.

And the trip computer is a liar!

Mine's (3.6 tdv8) either always towing or making the most of the glorious empty B roads around here. Think I once saw 21 on the computer but it could have been a mirage. Guess real world figures are somewhere around 19 but the permagrin is huge!

If of any help to compare, my 4.4L TDV8 offers 29 mpg (vs the advertised 30 mpg ) thanks to the impressive 8-speed auto box a and light foot i must admit.

Now, my 4.4L Petrol V8 with roof rack and mud tyres... Well, you do not really want to know...  l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

In its first ten months my TDV6 L405 has averaged a true 28.5 mpg. Lowest between brim-ups of premium diesel is 24.6 mpg for local "pottering". Highest is 33.1 for couple of hundred miles of steady motorway consumption test c.70 mph. Never place too much faith in the onboard computer but I suspect lowest fuel consumption on motorways is about 60-65 mph, although happy to be corrected! At 80 mph plus, consumption escalates dramatically

That's a long way from the quoted figures of Combined 37.7 - Urban 33.2 - Extra Urban 40.4, but I'd find it challenging to replicate in any way the "official" test protocol, namely:

Urban cycle
The urban test cycle is carried out in a laboratory at an ambient temperature of 20°C to 30°C on a rolling road from a cold start where the engine has not run for several hours. The cycle consists of a series of accelerations, steady speeds, decelerations and idling. The maximum speed is 31 mph (50 km/h). The average speed 12 mph (19 km/h) and the distance covered is 2.5 miles (4 km).

Extra-urban cycle
The extra-urban cycle is a cycle that is intended to represent the use of the vehicle on roads that are external to the urban environment. The cycle is conducted immediately following the urban cycle and consists of roughly half steady-speed driving with the remainder being accelerations, decelerations, and some idling. The maximum speed is 75 mph (120 km/h). The average speed is 39 mph (63 km/h) and the distance covered is 4.3 miles (7 km).

I once had a pal who drove his car long distance at constant 56.6 mph on motorways because he reckoned that was optimum speed for fuel economy - used to send me bonkers! Life's too short!
