I doubt anyone will give such a definitive answer. It all depends on how much you trust them to repair it properly and if you decide to have it inspected after that and are happy that all is well.

Without me knowing the lengths and capabilities of your own knowledge of FFRRs, may I suggest if you're in any doubt, employ a specialist to go and look over the vehicle. Especially so given the amount of ££ you're about to part with.

Having had work done on mine with Craig at Cam-Tech on 2 ocassions in the last week and having learnt what I have, I wouldn't ever purchase another FFRR without it either coming from him or have him go over it.

Is there a way to "force" it into limp mode if there is still an issue. If he does a temp fix, (which I won't know) how long might it take to reoccur if there is an issue still.

It will have at least 3 months warranty on it but my add additional to make it to 12 months (~£500) He uses AA warranty.

Sorry Ash, I can't answer that question. It will only go into limp home mode if it decides there's an issues that it needs to protect the car from further damage.

As Mark says above, if you have any doubts, but still want the car, you must get a specialist involved to check it out for you.

There are plenty out there, but sadly with RRs, you just can't tell when the next big bill will present itself, so the only thing you can really do is have it checked and even then, you can never be truly sure nothing else will go wrong. It's just part of the privilege of RR ownership

The risk with the TDV8 is that there is a major turbo failure and honestly I don't know how high that risk is. However considering the great price you have, that should leave some money in the piggy bank to sort that out. If the warranty is 3 months, first stop should be Craig or another reliable FFRR specialist to give it the once over and make sure everything is hunkydory (as far as that can be seen from the outside).

The gearbox is the same as the older SCs and the biggest "issue" there is the potential failure of the EDS4 solenoid and that is a cheap fix (read my gearbox posts and RRPhil help on others).

If you get the car in good shape (i.e. the low end issue solved) and there are no other concerns, then I'd say you should take the risk.

I said no to a TDV8 because of a turbo that had already failed but if this one is doing OK, just give it a top service (hoses, EGR cleaning etc. etc.) when you get it and you are hopefully fine. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I paid the deposit this morning (refundable if the turbo is gone).... He has said because of the low bid he is just selling it on behalf of one of his customers. Therefore will not be giving a warranty and it is essentially a private sale. Not sure he is allowed to do that (against trading standards rules etc) Perhaps Gaz or someone in the know can confirm this.? I'd need to get an invoice from him I guess rather than "Some bloke"

I will most likely put the extended AA warranty on it anyway.

I plan to take it to my LR indy once purchased for a once over so hopefully nothing else will jump out at me. Ash

if you give the money to him then he must give an invoice....no warranty is good as you can get him to repair it for a period of 6 months ..

Concerns over car. Concerns over who is issuing the invoice. Just be careful, mate.

CTCraig and Gaz seem to be excellent blokes, ( though I have yet to meet either of them). You may to putting them in an awkward situation asking them to comment on one of their colleagues.

If I were you, I would walk away if you too many questions and doubts about the car and the manner in which the deal is structured.

If you buy from a dealer then the deal should be with him to protect your rights. You have none in a private sale (as he is now proposing).

Assuming you have paid your deposit to the dealer (and got a sales invoice/ receipt to prove his involvement) then he has SoG Act obligations whether he likes it or not, but that does not mean he will want to honour them given the circumstances. It could prove a real can of worms if you get an issue with the RR a few months into ownership and it is significant enough to involve the dealer. (New turbo etc).

If you are happy to go ahead with private sale/no warranty then treat it as a private sale. Get someone you trust to check the RR fully before you complete the deal and advise on any work required. That price is cheap price for an '07 RR, but only if you don't need to spend a few grand on underlying faults.
