Craig will confirm, but at 4 years, I would definitely get the whole lot renewed. If you keep the Rangie it will last longer, it you sell it on, you'll show how well you maintained you Rangie. Either way it will benefit from new lubes and so will you.

Bear in mind your current oils have changed temperatured 1460 times since new => condensation. Also, they have never been replaced since the mecanical, moving part were all assembled together !

I changed my GB oil at 60.000 Km (35.000 miles) and it was very dark and there was metal deposit on the magnet...

if money no object, really, do not hesitate. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

Guys,
I've just got another car and it's been maintained by main dealers however it is over 5 years old and has done 85k plus miles. Obviously the engine oil gets changed regularly and I read from this post that changing the Diff oil is recommended and I've read elsewhere on the forum to change the gearbox oil - anything else I need to do or check - belts?.
I do intend to keep the car so don't mind paying out to have stuff done.
Thanks in anticipation Thumbs Up Geoff

Geoff,

The below previous thread touched on 'servicing' the supercharger.

Our 4.2 has just had new alternator belt and new supercharger belt but only because after having the engine out to repair a leak, apparently the previous belts then started making a chirping noise when the components were re-assembled, hence the new belts were fitted to cure the chirping.

As above a supercharger oil it is available from LR iirc so probably worth doing.
Also think about coolant and brake fluid as that's been in there for a good while now and getting the AC done would finish it all off nicely as the AC is quite big compared to most vehicles Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

would appreciate your thoughts on fluid changes generally
my MY11 is only 4 yrs old now.............

I would look at changing it all asap sir... I advise my customers to do them every 30K and have some now covered over 300k without issue... Not many make it past either 150k or 10yrs without major issues when they are not changed regularly...

Also keep an eye on Coolant & Brake fluid...

Hi,

Based on the excellent advice on this forum, I am having the transfer box and diff oils changed next month at Keith Gott LR, when the Rangie's in for an Inspection 1 service. I have been quoted £100 (total inc. VAT) for the front and rear diff oil changes and £68 for the transfer box oil. I'm also having the brake and coolant fluids changed, and new front Brembo disks and pads (£385 for these, inc VAT). Also having the upper intercooler hoses replaced as these seem to be a weak spot on older FFRRs.

If it wasn't for this forum, I'd only be doing the Inspection 1 service and probably the front brakes; it seems to be quite easy to overlook the other, important, service items.

Merry Christmas to all Thumbs Up

thx Craig

was just wondering if any of these jobs were labour intensive? I would have no clue if my dealer told me "well sir, the gearbox is a sealed unit, so it takes a couple of hours to unseal and reseal", or if they said "oil change sir, well in addition to the hours to unseal and reseal we need to flush.....", or if they said "15 minute job sir...."

whether any of the above would be accurate or complete rubbish.

I have done the gearbox on the 4.2 many times to flush the coolant/ATF mix out and I can tell you it is not hard at all. Drain the box, remove filter/oilpan unit, install new filter/oilpan unit, filling. I'd say an hour would normally do it for me and another 30 mins just getting everything ready and tidying up afterwards (a proper workshop doesn't need all that, I was working in our parking garage in the apartment in Nigeria). Note that I had to lie underneath the car and all that and didn't have all the tools (especially filling took some time) so a proper garage should not take that much time I guess.

There is nothing "magic" about this gearbox oil/filter change. The only potential problem is that some of the bolts can be a bit corroded and difficult to remove. On my 4.2 one of them broke and it took some time to remove the broken bit. The new bolts that come with a proper service kit are good idea. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I'd jet wash the bolts when you get a chance and then cover in penetrating fluid at least a few days before as it does help even just a little bit and then keep spraying them every day before the job is done and it will make your life easier if your diying it and if not just leave it as is 😄😄 FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

so a dealer will want money for the fluids
a new filter / oilpan unit
some new bolts if he shears any of the old

new drain plug?
and perhaps a new gasket?
any o rings...other consumables?

i see on ebay kits for this being sold for £170 pounds. so with dealer mark up....£300 pounds
still dont know how many hours labour it will cost from a dealer? any thoughts?
maybe i will ask the customer relations guy...

Hope that helps Thumbs Up
