French law has changed, cats, dogs and other domestic animals are no longer seen by law as furniture. Meaning that it's forbidden to leave them when you move. You have to treat them with the respect of a living creature etc. France is in so many ways a retarded country (which is one of the reasons I live here), but in thi,s they are way ahead of many others.
