I've had big Merc's, Audi's, Porsche's and 2 RR Sports, but nothing comes close to the "special'ness" of a Fullfat.

Plus, I can go anywhere with dog in the boot and 5 passengers, no matter what the weather throws at me - okay, it might breakdown occasionally and not have the build quality of the high end German marques, but its got something special.

Just remember, there's no such thing as a reliable car model, it all depends on how the vehicle you have is maintained and treated.

There is no such thing as a more reliable make of vehicle, ALL makes of vehicle are only as good as the owner who looks after it.

My boss has a Merc (the big 4x4 one, can't remember the exact model he's got), has had all sorts of costly niggles with it, and he now wants to get rid of it for a FF. He loves my old MY 05 FF even though his big merc is newer than mine. He's been a Landrover owner for years and got the Merc for a 'change', regrets the choice and is now hankering after another Landy (he drools over the new 5.0SC L405!!).

What more can I say!

To be honest the fact you are on here means you are not just a FF owner but a tad more so trying to wrench the ff out of your soul will be painful - interestingly my other half always says she only felt special getting out of the ff and the xjr all the others are as she says just cars so she may know nothing about cars but as a trolley dolly she is right up there with style

I had an S-Class from new - it was OK in fact better than OK - but it wasn't a FFRR which I drive now. In fact I'm on my second FFRR I've had neither since new but I won't be bothering with another S Class - a competent car but not a car that leaves you wanting another. Geoff

Tell you what. Take one out for a test drive and we'll organise a series of Full Fats along the test drive. Specifically at lights, see what you think then.

I've never owned a Merc but have been a passenger in the S class many times. Lovely cars the S class. However which would you rather be driving in our winter weather? The S class or the RR?
Which would you rather be driving on the motorway in the torrential rain? s class or RR?
Which can carry you across Europe with all your gear for working six months away? S class or RR
Which has that certain cachet money can't buy? S class or RR?
Which is the most practical for everything you can think of? S class or RR?
I'm biased because the RR was always my aspirational car and now I have one
RR - all the car you'll ever need. Travelling around in circles again.

Thanks for the replies lads I really appreciate the fact that you sympathise and understand my situation. On reflection I only need to delve back 4 or so years when I sold my last FFRR because I got a bug to posses a jag XF which was quite new to the market then. It did not fulfil its promise even though it was a lovely looking motor and was admired by most. Not quite 2 years later and it was gone and I was back to a much later FFRR. I should have learned from that bug but at least it seems you have brought me to my senses. I shall resist changing until RR bring out the next round of improvements to the L405 and revert to my original plan which was to invest in my first ever NEW motor. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

I looked into the S class seriously before buying the FFRR and did a good bit of research.

S class W140 great car, very well put together. I think it looks boring, but you may not agree. Lots of car for the money.

S class W220 Much nicer looking car. Lovely. This was penny pinching time at Merc. Not good. This car seemed to exist so FFRR owners could check them out mechanically and think FFRRs were reliable and cheap to maintain.

S class W221 Pretty much as above. Gorgeous looking. Mechanically suspect. Drove one a few weeks ago. It was, at least, double the price of my FFRR. Frankly, I liked the interior and ride on the FFRR better. Getting back in my car was no letdown at all.

S class W222 I saw one, brand new, when I looked at the W221. Not nearly as nice as the W221, and that's before you consider the price difference. I hope they've sorted things mechanically, finally, but then you have a not particularly good looking S class and if you want a not particularly good looking S class that's sorted, just get the W140.

I didn't research anything older than the W140, but I think they were also seen as good and reliable, but time has had its way with them by now.
