First of all let me say I have a lovely 2011 tdv8 with only 14000 Mls and perfect condition in every way. I have no reason to get rid of this car but all of a sudden and without prior warning I find myself,on numerous occasions, searching the dealerships and doing the new car research for a Mercedes S class. I don't know where this sudden urge has come from or where it will lead but I would really appreciate it if someone out there can talk some sense into me or point me in the right direction to get me out of this frame of mind that I find myself in. If there is anyone who has experience of the S class and can put together a good reason for steering clear or even an argument in favour of RR v S class I would be very grateful. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

Well, I've had 3 Mercs and truthfully I never found any love for any of them. Not crappy A classes either, one ML500, an E270 Avantgarde Estate and an E55 Estate. Supposedly premium cars and actually very, very ordinary.

Love him or hate him you have to agree that Clarkson knows what he's talking about. He recons it's not worth getting an S Class as your FF is everything it is and more, the ride in an S Class is no better than the FF...

The S class is a great car but if you get one the first time you pull up at traffic lights in it and a RR pulls up beside you , the driver will be looking down to you and you'll be looking up at him thinking what have I done ! |

I remember clarkson et al testing the Ferrari ff in Scandinavia, great car in the ice on studded tyres but the judgment was that for crossing continents at speed and in comfort he would rather have the standard Range Rover the production team always used for the filming.

I like the S class. Understand your 'urges' completely.

Had a few Mercs, from the last of the proper S class (w124) to various C and E classes up to late E320 cdi, all comfortable but none memorable, now got a TDV8 and won't be going back to Mercs anytime soon, please be warned, you WILL be sorry |
