Hi all,

Just been to look at an 03 FF TD6 this afternoon. A couple of questions...

The reach adjustment motor for the steering wheel makes a noise but doesn't actually move the steering wheel - simple fix or replacement motor?

When putting in to low range the transfer motor makes a noise and it does seem to go into low judging by the drastic changes in RPMs in respective gears, but the low range light doesn't come on. However when knocking the gearstick across to manual mode the Low range light illuminates regardless of whether the car is in low or high, but nothing comes up to tell me I've gone into manual, aside from the gear number being displayed. Can't find anything by searching but I thought maybe if there's a manual light it's been swapped with the low range light and the bulb blown on the one that should say manual? Does that sound plausible?

Lastly the heated steering wheel doesn't work, when pressing the button the light doesn't come on at all. Any thoughts?

I don't think any of the issues are deal breakers as long as the price reflects these niggles....

Reach adjustment may be an easy fix or could be a new column very pricy even second hand

Manual doesn't have a light it tells you in the info bit on the dash... could be an easy fix, could be a new shift motor or transfer box...

Heated steering wheel, again could be an easy fix of wiring off inside the wheel or could need a new wheel....

Personally I wouldn't buy one with all those electrical gremlins, there are plenty out there and those three issues could run to well over £1000 if they are all the expensive fixes.... also if the owner hasn't bothered with them what else hasn't he bothered with???? Pete

Judging by the receipts I was shown for the car it seems as if near enough everything except these issues has been looked at recently! EGR, Injectors, BM54, boot seal, Radio screen, suspension compressor, light control module etc etc...

The strangest thing to me is that the high/low and gearbox all seems smooth and works as it should except from this little low range warning light which comes on under the wrong circumstances! For this reason seems unlikely the motor or transfer box would need doing as it is actually functional?

Yep, could be something really simple, just letting you know where you might end up though....

Use them as a good bargaining point and if the rest is nice and the condition is OK take a chance....

You can manually adjust the column and then unplug it and leave it where it is, as long as it's not loose, sometimes the bit that breaks makes the whole thing loose....

New heated wheel from Powerful UK is about £110, but it could be the wiring...

Factor in an IID tool to the price as you will need one sooner or later....  Pete

Hi Matt, you don't mention the mileage, not that high mileage is an issue on a TD6 but the gearbox does have a shelf life .............interestingly mine doesn't have any issues at all at the moment although its had some of the usual issues but not those you listed. Mine has 113k on the clock and i did get a new gearbox around 80K........and being nosy i wondered what price was being asked of the TD6 you looked at with said problems
