I've noticed since I joined this forum that people on here post pictures of their cars with the reg plates in full view. Aren't you afraid of cloning?

you can stand on a street and collect reg numbers ....ok on the forum/interweb/ebay/autotrader it might be easier but if they are going to do it then they will.. ... - .- -.

i guess it comes down to accessibility, yes perhaps easier getting one to clone from the internet as opposed to driving around looking for a vehicle match.

Exactly my point. I've just ordered my new plates via eBay for £16. I could have asked for anything and there was never any proof demanded. |

In theory show plates/Internet plates are illegal to use on the road, that have no stamp in the corner indicating bs number and origin which is technically part of the British standard to make the plates legal.

This cloning trick is sorted by having something personal on the rear of your car, so that a similar coloured, cloned car might look different, -on a picture, in court, with you saying ' it's not me, my lord! ' So put something on your car, like a forum sticker! - like mine! |

That's how I managed to prove my innocence eventually. The numpty cloner didn't have a Jockish flag on his plate, or the name of the garage in Perth and he also had a Cooper S badge on the bootlid, which I don't. |

I personally think it helps having a private number plate, as I've not seen a cloned car use a copied private plate yet... I guess in a crims mind it draws more attention! Which is just the opposite to what they want to achieve...
