I'm seeking your advice please.
Apparently we are getting a robotic vacuum cleaner from my wife's family for Christmas and the conundrum is which one? Can anyone offer their advice on what's the best one in terms of maintaining tiled floors infested with cat hairs? Should've been old enough to know better...doh!

no idea whats good, but interested on what you think when you get one...........not sure if you can do carpet but i have lots of laminate and 3 cats so you can see it may be required.........keep us posted

Do these things actually work? Based on their size the 'bag/receptacle' cant be that big and having a lot of experience of bloody animal hair I cant see it, although always open to be persuaded

I've got a Roomba one.

Have to say i am impressed with it. It copes with our stone floor and our forever moulting lab !!!

Best thing i found was to set the schedule for sometime overnight so you don't have to watch it because it will drive you insane with the highly random way it moves around - often wonder if it will remember to go back to do certain bits but it always seems too. Once its finished it trundles back to its dock and recharges. If you want to use it during the day just put it in the room and close the door and come back 20 mins later to a clean room. Ours runs on a variety of surfaces from laminate, tile, stone and carpet all without issue.

Yes the bin is quite small but i've never had to empty it mid room and for speed you will never clean the house as quick as with a normal hoover but we tend to just do put in a couple of bedrooms a day and leave it on the auto cycle in the kitchen/lounge over night to remove dog hair, grit and dirt from outside etc.

Some of the other makes i looked it required you to put reflective stickers on furniture or walls to help the robot find its way using lasers where as this one works off pressure sensors around the body which tell it when its touching something solid. If it gets stuck it will just turn off and sit there till you rescue it. 2008 TDV8

They're all pretty similar at that sort of price. They do work, but they have small bins and are pretty stupid and can be temperamental and fragile.

I just don't see this working when like me, your house has multiple height floors, going from thick rug to wood, over a door threshold in raised oak, tiles floors etc.

Plus surely they can't be as powerful as a normal Dyson say?

Plus they are typically round in shape, how does it get into corners and awkward spaces? Discovery 4 HSE
