Ford Fiesta 1.1 pop plus in silver, with a 5 speed box, wider lower tyres on standard rims and sports springs, wasnt quick off the mark but would corner brilliantly.

Sold and replaced with a escort 1.6lx which lasted a year, and was sold on to be replaced by a pug 405 1.7 gldt. Which was the dogs! Did everything, even used it as a camper van for a tour of Europe! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

MG 1100 bought for 17 quid then the fun started new back plate and rear subframe pipe work for the hydro elastic suspension rebuilt the twin su's not bad for a 17 yr old without a clue but made it got it mot'd and then it was off to uni following year happy memories - then it was a mini van then a cortina then company cars

1936 Riley Victor. Bought it for £4, drove it home and sold it a few weeks later for £12. After that it was an endless stream of bangers.

This was all well pre-MOT so some of them were very interesting indeed.

Later, with a young family and no money, I bought a few cars with shot motors and fitted replacement motors, usually second hand. The last one I did that to was a lowline Ford Consul. That was a while ago.

Over the years my vehicles did improve in quality.  John

1966 Ford Anglia 105e. And rust. Lots of rust.

It was infinitely rebuildable though and relatively easy to fix. No FBH, no EGR valves, no electronics. Yep, easy but basic.

Absolutely mint 1978 Mini 850 in Russet brown with a light brown vinyl interior

Very basic and benefitted from being fettled every weekend - perhaps something to do with no rev' counter so I only ever changed up when I heard valve bounce

Years later father tried to re-grind the 850 crank but couldn't as it was too badly bent

Blue 1984 Ford Fiesta 1.1L, bought for me by my parents when I was 17 in 1987. A75 OKJ.

It had go-faster graduated horizontal bonnet stripes and matching rear window stripes, a stereo with flip-down 7-band graphic equaliser and two huge driving spot lamps.

I soon removed the stickers and ran it quite happily for about 6 months. Mum hated it as she thought it too small and unsafe, so dad changed it for a 1984 VW Jetta which I ran for 6 years.

The next Ford to come into my ownership was last week, almost exactly 27 years to the day since I got the Fiesta. This one has a slightly bigger engine, though... Si. <This is my name.

I rather shied away from FWD after driving the Mini for a few years, and went through a string of RWD, including an Escort MK1, Hunter GLS, Midget, MGBGT, MGBGT V8, and then on to All Wheel Drive (halfshaft's permitting!) Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Ahhh my old Renault! First car was hand me down and was a semi decent Renault 5 Automatic 5 door in faded red!

Was very nippy with its dual carb in one setup and only 3 gears meant it did have to work hard sometimes but proved good against mates things like novas and stuff once it got moving

Met its demise after it slid on an oil slick into a curb and stuffed it self into a high curb bending in the pass front suspension setup was replaced by a metro auto which was nasty! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

All these British/European cars sound pretty exotic.

My first was a 1986 Chrysler New Yorker.
If you don't know what that is, you're lucky.

Mine was white. It bobbed around comfortably in town, but handled at motorway speeds rather like an oil tanker in a strong gale. The interior and seats (bench) can only described as overstuffed Victorian.
Why buy it? Previously Grandfather's (new), then Dad's, so history was known and it was in good nick. I had it three years and sold it for $250 more than I paid for it! A feat I have been unable to repeat.

American cars now seem to be following the 1970s British Leyland model when it comes to quality.
