Yeah sounds like they'd be full of loop holes to escape paying out any claims ! Think I prefer just putting money into a pot myself for any repairs etc.

As pld118 says, I have to prove my car is properly serviced, so can't do oil changes myself anymore....

I am now considering holding back some money (around 2-3k) and getting a slightly older slightly higher miles ffrr. And have that money put away as my gearbox/air suspension fund. That way it takes the worry away and just take it for granted that I will be putting a new gearbox in it and the time I get out the original is just a bonus. Would still go for the 4.4 v8 as you can pick them up very cheap around the 100k mark. There are a few I have saw that are a he'll of a lot more tidy than some I have saw with less miles just depends how they have been used I suppose motor way miles or short trips. This is the only way for me to have complete piece of mind and without saving up another year or so. To me I would rather have one a year or so older, 20k more miles but has a sound gearbox and money there to sort out any air suspension issues. To me that's the main worries all the others I don't mind sorting out myself I enjoy working / servicing my cars anyway as long as it doesn't cost the earth !

also i have read about the front diff problems and when buying ask if it has been replaced. is there any symptoms if the diff is bad ? is it an expensive fix and how do i know if its totalled ? |

Now leaning towards the td6 again ! After reading some bad things about the 4.4 v8 timing chain and vanos issues. The Zf gearbox was what was drawing me towards the 4.4 but it seems it doesn't come without its problems. Just the gearbox and turbo being the main worries with the td6 but at least the engine is solid.

saw this one but is this the aj v8 ? as its still the 4.4 i thought the ajv8 was a 4.2 ? also i see that its the 6 speed auto wich i like. i take it that this is the more reliable transmission and engine ? i don't plan on lpg so the aj v8 seems the better option so long as i can get the cash together ! |

No matter which one you get, it's pretty inevitable you'll have issues at some point.
