Steering wheel removal

Guys
I'm fitting a new steering wheel Sat. I have read Stans Wiki on removing the battery. And also the post about removing the air bag with a slim screwdriver and a wiggle.

Once removed (I'll spray the spokes silver) is the steering wheel on a fine or course spline? Mine is about 1-2 fine splines out to the left so was hoping to move it around 1-2 teeth.
Will this cause me grief when I reconnect it all and do the full lock left and right learning thing?

Is there anything other than the clock that looses memory? I.e radio codes or windows etc?

Cheers in advance.

TBH the steering wheel has been off since I brought it. Only by 1-2 fine splines (if it has them?)

Car doesn't pull to the side and tyres are wearing even. So hoping it's been put on slightly off at sometime. Accept, some days your the pigeon, some days your the statue!

Unlikely the wheel is off TBH, more likely the straight ahead is out on the tracking, last time it was tracked the steering wheel probably wasn't set straight....

Best to straighten it up with the track rods not simply move it round a spline or 2, they aren't that fine an adjustment. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Damn I knew someone would suggest I get dirty!! Wink

Will have a go at cracking the ballpoints and giving them both a turn or 2 to see.

Cheers

To answer your other points, the radio will lose presets but won't need a code or anything, of course your MPG/trip mileage etc will go as well, aside from that, each time I've had my battery off it's been quite well behaved, never had to reset windows or sunroof etc.

Usually just lock to lock for the adaptive headlights.

Good luck!

Thumbs Up

Steve

Any garage that knows what they are doing will set the steering wheel straight, lock it off with a seat clamp and then adjust the alignment, if your steering wheel isn't straight it would suggest that it hasn't been done properly, I would get it checked to make sure, most garages will check it for free and only charge if adjustment is needed.... Pete
