Great record. I have that one, but on CD - now ripped to MP3. Thumbs Up

You'd have to be pretty brave to do that with colectors items I think.

That seems like a LOT of work. If you have a very rare recording and need to archive it, this is great. Thumbs Up Otherwise, I'd be tempted to get the CD.

LP or CD...? Well I have LP's that sound so much better as the CD version. Even Life recordings (Julian Bream and John Williams in concert F E) are so much clearer and seem to give a wider range of sound. I will certainly give it a try on a few of my LP's

^ LP or CD? Well if it's at all possible I buy the LP every time.

I agree that some CDs sound louder and that's because they are louder. Not necessarily more dynamic, that's actually a rarity and needs a very good sound engineer. Have a read around http://turnmeup.org/ and it explains this more eloquently than I ever could.

Basically, the early CDs from the 1980's were mostly fine. However, once bands/record companies/marketing people understood the wider decibel range that a CD was capable of they all went about trying to make theirs the loudest. Not most dynamic, or most accurate to the original recording, just louder to make them stand out on radio etc. A futile exercise actually as any person who has ever worked in broadcasting will tell you. All broadcasters use hard-ceiling compression so everything's roughly the same volume anyway.

In terms of cleaning I would not fancy wood glue, nor would I have the time. I do have a wet-vac machine to do this which I would venture to say is vastly superior in cleaning and time taken. I also buy direct-cut masters on certain LPs rather than the vinyl pressings. But then I do have a rather expensive turntable (Linn Sondek) to make the most of decent LPs. And honestly, it sounds way better than a CD, even on a CD player as good as the top notch British Hi-Fi makes. Actually, a Nakamichi CD player was about the best I heard but it's not as good as a good old LP.

But wood glue? Erm, no thanks. Wink

Ah, CD vs vinyl. Let's stay friends. There are plenty of less controversial subjects, like politics, religion and Middle East peace plans. Very Happy
