My laptop has finally succumbed to metal fatigue and the screen has nearly fallen off.... I use it for all sorts on cars and it does live a hard life....

I was going to pop to PCWorld and buy a new one and then had a thought that as notebooks are becoming popular maybe someone had a good condition Laptop lying around unused.

I do need a decent size screen but apart from that I'm not fussed as long as it works..

So chaps... What Have You... and how much?

I have 5 laptops.

Super powerful one I mostly use.
Small, cheap travel laptop.
Laptop with a broken keyboard I use as a media PC and connect to remotely.
Old super powerful - now decomissioned.
Small, cheap travel laptop - mostly decomissioned, but used occasionally in the garage to connect to my VX.

You could have 'Old super powerful - now decomissioned', but you're a little far away.

Macbook Pro & i'd never go back to "winda's"

I don't have a spare at the moment but if I was in your position and needed one for the car I would go for one of the old Asus eeepc from ebay that run off 12v

I have one that I use model eeepc 1000h

I also use it for emails on holiday. screen is 1024x680 (or there abouts)

failing that your new head unit is basically a computer

Pete, I have loads kicking about at home but as mentioned depends what you want. Unlike Craig I am anti Crapple so all are windows but at least 2 to 3 years old. I am down south at the moment but if you are still without one next week I can let you know what they are and choose one. All required would be postage and a donation to the forum

I have an old but perfectly OK HP Pavillion DV9920ed here. With a battery that was replaced about a year ago. Haven't used it anymore since it was way too slow and I replaced it with a Dell XPS27 plus I have my Samsung Galaxy tablet.

Unfortunately the shipping cost will be a bit high from Malaysia to the UK and I don't expect being there anytime soon, otherwise you could have it for next to nothing. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

If i was in your position i would go for an older Dell D series laptop. A d510 or 620 would do the job, parts are cheap like batteries and so on and they last a hell of a long time on a decent charge and can have extended battery packs bought for them.

If your really short i have a Lenovo X200 that has a blown screen light fuse. The simple fix is to just solder some wire over it but ive never had to the time to dig into it. Would come complete and need a windows install but even thats not too hard these days No CD Drive but i think i have a dock for it as well somewhere or install of USB.

Wouldnt want much for it either and can bring it sunday if you want to looksee FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
