I really don't have any desire to own another rare car that's in mint condition.

There's too much responsibility with such a vehicle, the worry every time it's taken out in case something happens, taking it to shows where assholes are always wanting to rub the paintwork with their grubby mitts not realising the damage that it causes, kids jumping on the running boards, coat buttons and belts doing damage as viewers lean over the bodywork to get a closer look...the list is endless. Even when it's tucked up in the heated garage there's always the problem of something getting dropped or bumped against the paintwork and it's not like you can pop into your local coach builder and have it repaired as it's done in old school paints that very few painters know how to use nowadays.

I was at a show in Moffat in 2009 where the car was damaged badly enough that my insurance company were wanting to repaint the whole car, I was lucky enough to find a couple of guys who were expert paint detailers and managed to save her from being repainted as that would have taken 30 years of history away forever.

I didn't read every single word, but skimmed it for the salient elements and can only sit in wonder at what your chaps achieved with the paintwork and their unashamed skill and passion for doing the work.

I take it the paint required no further work or had any other mishaps after that? The paint thickness issue would have certainly resulted in a repaint, so I can quite understand your 'custodian worry' comments.

Good job, too, that the tax man hasn't cottoned onto taxing profits from the sale of classic cars. Won't be for too much longer, I fear. Si. <This is my name.

That kind of love for cars and the work is very rarely found, you brits are lucky basterdonians with a business so well developed around the classic and vintage car scene.

Update, the old girl made it all the way to her new home 180 miles away without incident and the new owner is very happy with his purchase
