IID Tool Height readings - weird problem | |
OK so a bit of a palaver but trying to get to the bottom of a suspension issue.
I got in the car the other day and all of a sudden the left front rose in the air and then the air spring burst. No errors on the IID tool but the height readings were funny as described below.
Anyway ordered two new front struts as they looked like they'd never been changed anyway at over 100,000 miles. So changed the left today (that bottom bolt is always a nightmare to remove huh?!) and found the height sensor to be held together with a cable tie. Anyway I cautiously started the engine, checked for faults on the IID tool, none found so tested each corner valve which worked fine and then tried going to lowest height on the dash control which made the back sink as you'd expect (front was already low) and then normal height led to front going up and left front shooting up again but was ready this time and immediately shut off engine as soon as went above normal and then deflated again with the IID tool.
So checked the heights and callibrations again and they were pretty much the same as before:
Calibration: FL 413 FR 150 RL 157 RR 127
Live value current height: FL -455 FR -26 RL 8 RR -32
Live value calibration: FL -7 FR 150 RL 157 RR 127
So I assumed the car was trying to get the FL height from about -455mm to -7mm which is why its trying to explode the FL again.
So I change the calibration of the FL to 150 and upload to the car which says OK but then if you immediately check the calibration again it says 413 again.
So regardless of why this suddenly happened does it mean I need a new sensor?
I assume so but why wont the car allow me to change the calibration from 413 to say 150??? Especially when I thought the IID tool would only let you put in values to 200?
Very confusing!
I was going to message GAP direct but thought I would try here first as theres so much experience here.
