A brake question for those with pre 2010 and post 2011

Right, I hate the fact that my car doesn't have brembos. I fitted them to my disco 3 and was so impressed i want to upgrade the ff.

I need some favours from people to work out what i need to do the update. This is only if and when, i would ask you to bear this in mind on your next wheels off task.

Im after the bolt hole spacing centres that hold on the callipers of both pre 2010 and post 2011.

As mine is the gay one in the middle with the cheese brakes on I don't know what ones will fit, i.e. did they have a specific disc pad and calliper made just for the one year of standard brakes.

If the hub is the same as the pre than i guess its 4 pots, but it could have the post hubs/hangers on meaning it would be 6 pots????

Any help much appreciated and when its all done ill do a write up with pics. (may be in the summer tho)

Cheers, Steve

As an added bonus to complicate things, i actually have a 59 plate. Just looking at the disc part numbers and i can't find any specific to my year.

Could it be that the discs are the same fitment and it was just the callipers they changed?

Why why why oh why didn't you wait another year?? Bow down Bow down

Given that your car is a ''semi-update'' model, with the 3.6 mechanical, my best bet would be to assume the disc fittings are the same as the ''old'' 3.6.

And possibly the same as the 4.4. On the russian LR parts website, the discs seems to be the same for the pre 2009 and post 2011. The fittings seem to be also in the same place from the regular brembos to the mega-brembos.

I would confirm everything else is the same before potentially causing brake balance and ABS/DSC problems.

i sympathise, this is a real omission on Land Rover's part.

My 2007 TDV8 had the Brembos, they were awesome, then models after that didn't. My dad has a 2010MY 3.6 TDV8 and the non Brembo brakes are so woolly and useless, whereas my 5.0 SC of the same year has them and its awesome!

This post doesn't help you, but it shows I at least read it Very Happy Discovery 4 HSE

Just a thought. J E Engineering do some big brake kits for the FFRR. Might be a better option than LR, possibly cheaper although JE are not shy with the invoicing.

A nice set of 6 pots on the front and 4 pots on the rear. Cool

Yup, I should have saved a bit harder and waited.

If I can get the measurements to confirm it's not too much trouble. I'm hoping that the discs are the same size and it's just a calliper swap. Even easier than the disco.

As for the balance. Makes no odds atall, well didn't on the disco. By it's very nature the bds should sort it all out in the same way on the ff I would hope.

Je are just too expensive, rather do it the lr route with some good new old stock.

Any way, maybe I need to find a friendly salvage yard with a written off sc that I can do some measuring on.

I will get there in the end. I have to. I'm like a dog with a bone, well or buy a new car.

I'm right with you - 2010MY on a 59 plate and brakes like my 1961 series 2...

I hope there is a solution - you have to wonder why they still insist on dipping in the parts bin.... surprised there aren't any allegro switches lurking somewhere! 10MY 3.6TDV8 Vogue SE - Stornoway Grey

I am in same situation. 59 plate, 2010 year, crap brakes. Presumably it is possible to find Brembo discs that are the same size and swap them for the soggy pizzas that are supposed to be brakes? I did this on my Mini and it made a world of difference.

I have a few sets of the 6 pot later 4.4 TDV8 brakes... You would need to take out one of the calliper holder to hub bolts and give me its size Thumbs Up

Craig. Many thanks. I'll try and get a wheel off this weekend and have a measure. I'll keep you posted.
