How Hard is it

Laughing Not what you are thinking ......

Have been trying a few car accessory shops up my neck of the woods to get a 18mm deep 3/8 socket neither of the shops have them including Halfords as for some reason an 18mm deep socket is not standard ... 17mm and 19mm galore but no 18's

Tried Amazon and Fleabay , but thats a 3-5 working day delivery , tried a couple of motor factors ... the same ...

Ah well looks like 3-5 days it is then .... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Mick, I'm with you. I'm finally getting my 18mm spanner into the non-shiny condition that my 17mm and 19mm ones are in with all the 18mm nuts & bolts on this crappy Skoda of mine.

Even the brake calipers on Wifey's XF seem to require a 9mm Allen key. Not the 7mm, 8mm or 10mm that come in every set ever made, no a 9mm one which nobody sells, not even the Snap-On van. Censored

Cant you get the 19mm deep one and either..

a) stick a 1mm shim down the socket

or

b) Grind 1mm off the end?

Anyhow , got one from a local tool store only to find out the depth of the deep socket is still too short for to tighten this specific bolt up ....

To put you in the picture

This is the Deep 18mm socket at its maximum reach , the hex nut you see has to be tight against the top of the bolt .....

Problem being as in picture below the bolt you see goes in at the top of this bracket the hex nut goes in at the bottom so the deep socket cannot tighten the nut up as its an enclosed space

Maybe try looking out for a Rothberger spanner ...

Well it's certainly not his nuts, no way are they big enough to fill an 18mm socket Laughing Laughing

I'll go out to the garage and have a look Mick, would a 1/2" drive be of any use if I have one? I can supply a 1/2" ratchet or breaker bar or T-bar also

My dad used to have a full set of box spanners that you could tighten up with a T bar, probably about as much help here as a chocolate fire guard though!
