2017 Range Rover SVAutobiography 5.0 SC V8 Indus Silver
Rear Suspension 2006 Supercharged

Hi Dan.

My car failed it's MOT on Friday, Apparently the rear lower control arm bushses have failed on both sides, What are my options with respect to:

1. Buy entire arm including bushes
2. Buy all the bushes

I'm thinking after the front suspension stuff was so good, that the OEM quality is the way to go.

Both options would have to include all the relevant bolts, nuts, washers etc.

Sorry it's vague, if you need my chassis number let me know, I will PM it.

Thanks

I couldn't even buy the bushes separately so ended up with the entire arms (front). Wasn't cheap though. The guys in Nigeria did find the loose bushes but not sure if they were genuine............

Changing out bushes in not an easy peasy job but also not the end of the world. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Thanks Eugene.

I bought the arms for the front as well- seemed easier.

The only issue I had was that this was a Scottish car and it's previous owner didn't rinse the underside often.

This made some of the fixings 'interesting' to remove, That said I have various methods (BFH Impact wrench Breaker bar etc)

The only thing I don't have it the bush puller/pusher sets that I've seen people here use (or any massive sockets!)

My main issue at the moment is time. As satisfying as it is to work on the old beast I'm meeting myself coming back at the moment!

Seen a couple of great write ups from Joe90 and fisha.

Cheers,

Thumbs Up

Yep, when you have a busy schedule and an MOT to complete, DIY is not always the easiest option. Good luck and let us know how it progresses Wink MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the fast response.

OK, assuming I went for both arms, I take it they have the bushes in already. I would need the special 'wonky' bolts as well, I figure I should probably do it all together.

I'm also considering (given it's £265ish plus special bolts, plus drop links) I should probably just give the debit card a bending.

Could you give me a total all in please?

What are the lead times?

Also, I've PMd my VIN just in case there are any anomalies.

Cheers

Steve, yes arms would come with new bushes in place.

So total for

arms x 2 £230.00
drop links x 2 £99.14
all fittings for the above £72.19

Total £401.35

Hi all

Well the big suspension job is off.

Didn't get the long bolts and now my jack is making odd noises so I'm just walking away.

Edit: cautionary tale.. When you have a brilliant jack but it's miles away and you try to use a Halfords 2.25Tonne jack which doesn't have enough lift, you should probably have collected your good jack. Call me scaredy cat but I didn't fancy taking chances lifting a big lump like that.

Ho hum. Big Cry

a follow up, Aborted work on Saturday, car on bump stops this morning; I'd only flipping torn my front NS air spring while jacking the car.

I'm sure only I could manage to try to overhaul the rear suspension and in doing so ruin the front!!

Looks like an expensive month... now where did I put those bicycle clips?

Laughing Shocked Big Cry

Dan, you have a PM.

Haha you could say that!

I've done plenty of more complicated things on this car, it's just aligned nicely with MOT failure and working 13-15 hours a day.

Suffice to say I have requested that my dad brings over my proper jack from his house -I tried to make do without the 5 mile round trip as I didn't want to drive the car with no MOT (and technically I guess no insurance) that decision has been taken out of my hands now, as I can't drive it anyway now Smile
