I have a couple of these mounted on quads and they are pretty solid. I use a dab of hot glue to hold the SD card in place as it's been known to eject in a tumble

Please don't put anything on the helmets. My wife fell of her horse last week, wearing her helmet and all the other gear. Despite the helmet she was and still is a bit in quite bad shape. Medium to moderate concussion, memory loss (short term memory was gone for hours that day and only started working the next day), she is still having problems trying to read (loses the thread of the story and all that). She still can't remember anything of the morning when it happened, her friend was ahead of her so didn't see the actual accident. We don't know what happened and she was on the most dependable horse you can imagine.

Welshgragon, been following this post with interest as I didnt realise the danger associated with cameras on helmets. Even hacking results in serious falls from spooking, bad drivers etc. Agree with the principal of a camera, wonder if it could be mounted elsewhere, top of the bridle? Or on the arm as previously mentioned, not an easy one |

Thanks guys. It was a bit of a scare when we realized that it wasn't just a matter of falling off and getting back on again. She can't knock her head for a long time as it would make matters quite a lot worse.

I'm not sure it's that big a problem - I would expect the mount to break well before the helmet

@Welshdragon, I'm in full agreement that anything that can capture the slightest detail when a horse spooks is great, but in my experience it happens so quickly that unless you can bring the horse back under your control and then look at the reason it tends to be all over in a split second. I have an extremely spooky horse and when she goes its seconds but what ever caused it has long since gone. With the young horses here we take them out on the road with an old schoolmaster or a cyclist running just out board.

@DavidP, I used to ride an older horse 15 years ago that spooked for just no real reason, was bullet proof! We where on a hack with one other rider on a not too busy B road, trouble was brewing as the cows in the field we where about to pass came rushing down to the road to see us and you can guess what came next, she flew, It took all my might to get her under control, canter on a melted road is not good, had to make her face the hedge to get control on the opposite side of the road!! But I guess the main thing was I didn't fall off or any car coming the other way! ......luck I guess |

Alistair, as has been stated, it was the camera that gave Schumacher his injury. |

Found this, seem a better way to go, and use the clip mount.

As far as I can remember the camera was considered to have played a role in either weakening the helmet or creating a point load or something of the sorts. Without having read the full report I don't think we should draw any conclusions re. Schumacher.

yes agree with you there, not using a cam on the helmet, hence the one I found so far clips on the chest as per something very similar to the police use. If it dont work.......burn it!
