rooting an Android

Has anyone done this? What are the pros and cons? I'm mainly wanting to free up space on the device. Would like to unlock the ability to move apps to the sd card. Does that sound reasonable with a rooted device?
Thanks [img]http://www.fuelly.com/driver/rob2529/range-rover[img/]

I'm not sure if you need to root it to do that but I haven't seen the need for it yet so haven't tried it.

I'm running a Samsung S3 (with extended battery) and getting frustrated with its slow speed (using a speed booster but it is still slow as) while waiting for the S6 to hit the scene.

Anyway, I'd say the droid development forums are your friend here Smile. Maybe there is way to do it via an app or without rooting it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Hi
I had one of my work techies root my HTC One a while back and then I found that none of the banking apps support rooted devices and don't work. Device had to be rebuilt to get working again. Don't be hasty, I was and regretted it. Barclays and Co-Op were the ones I use and weren't compatible

Regards

If it is memory space you are lacking there is a a code *#xxx* which takes you in to a service mode where you can delete the dump memory or something like that.

Search google for "android clear memory dump" and you will find the code on some of the forums. It work for me and increase the free memory by about 2 x.

The standard file manager apps dont have access to system resources such as system cache and memory dump. On my S2 i recevered about 0.8GB of space out of a total of 1.98GB. Thats was after I have deleted unused apps and moved as many as possible to the SD card.
