HPI Reports

Dont rely on an HPI Report being very accurate - went to sell my old Disco TD5 today - buyer did an HPI check and it came back saying registration number was not assigned to that vehicle - this is depsite me having a V5C from the DVLA that clearly matches with the VIN No. Called HPI and was told 'sometimes our database is a wee bit out of date' considering I've had the car for nearly 9 months it is well out of date. Apparently they will now contact DVLA and investigate, but that could take up to 5 working days..... they think it may have had a private plate at some point in its life and this has never been updated. Funny how in their report they can however confirm that it has not been subject to insurance loss or have any outstanding finance on it. Meanwhile I have lost a buyer. Not a happy bunny...............

Unfortunately, HPI checks always err on the side of the buyer as they usually have a guarantee to the buyer of insuring the buyer against being 'defrauded'. So the seller may be genuine, but if the HPI company gets the info wrong, it won't cost the HPI company.

Sorry to hear it cost you a sale, it's always a sod when they get it wrong. Shocked
