From my experience of FFRRs - the TD6 is a noisy old beast.... the BMW V8 is smooth and creamy. It's always struck me that the Jag V8 is a little rougher round the edges, imho.

Misery you do have a very good point about the noise, BUT i would rather have a nice comfortable quiet ride, if i want the noise i take the beast out, as for washing it, NO NO NO NO i get someone else to do that Thumbs Up

And from personal experience of running a TD6 for 2 years - it's a wheezy old cart horse of an engine compared to the TDv6. It rattles and wheezes in a way most unlike the same engine in the X5 too.

OK, not as good as the TDV6 in the Sport and certainly nowhere near the TDV8, but its not all that bad, and after having mine chipped it's much much better.

Can someone tell me if the FFRR received the same disel engine changes as the BMW X5 did between 2002 and when it was replaced in 2007? I seem to recall the Xf started with around 130Kw and 480nm and ended up with around 150kw and 500nm? Did the last TD6 FFRR have the latter power and torque? ANyone know what a Turbochip remap does to the latter engine? I'm thinking if it goes to say 180kw and 580nm it wouldnt be a bad bit of kit as they say!!!

I've got a feeling that the Td6 Range Rover kept the same spec BMW engine throughout its life - i.e. it didn't follow the X5 with power increases, etc.

I think you're right... often "borrowed" engines don't get the OEM updates. Halfway Down The Stairs,

Well,

don't know what to make of this,

we are running a total of 6 Range Rovers. The BMW TD6 is imho quieter and smoother than the TDV6 - the ford V6 definitely sounds more raucuss.

On an out and out drag race between the two vehicles - unmodified - absolutely no material difference, if anything the Sport with the V6 may just have the edge to 60, but get to 75 / 80 mph and the BMW unit has the edge right up to the limiter.

As I said, there is no material difference flat out i.e. neither one can pull away from the other with any measurable or worthwhile difference.
