Just my weird sense of humour! Minfd you, after having owned five Range Rovers Fromm the classic (3.5 & 2 3.9's) and a 4.6 P38, you have to have a sense of humour!

If you decide to rebuild I have a voltage regulator going spare for £25 (what it cost me).
Bearings can only be a few quid and diodes aren't more (think £5 each the last time I searched for them).
So in theroy you can rebuild it yourself for about £60.

Got to take a look this afternoon after it stopped chucking it down for a while, turns out it's the air con compressor belt tensioner, the bearing has run dry, worn out and it has a fare amount of play in it...

Will get a new one from Dan tomorrow....

I took off the two that tension the main belt, stripped them down and repacked them with grease, hopefully make them last a bit longer... Pete

Just to finish this off....

Range Rover want about £80 for the aircon pulley and tensioner as it comes in one piece, it's the same price as the double pulley version for the main drive belt...

There are just pulleys on ebay, mostly listed under BMW for about £30...

I got a new main belt tensioner from a local motor factors (I do get trade discount) for £38incvat, (a bargain, I thought) the plan was to just use one pulley on the air con, all three pulleys are the same...

Anyway, when it turned up it was the same make as the original, an F-Gen, so as the pulleys on the old main belt tensioner were OK I used one of them on the air con and fitted the entire new tensioner on the main belt...

All nice and quiet again
