Hi all, HELP, I'm being driven to despair by the brake pad warning. What do I have to do to turn the thing off?

I have replaced the front pads, I have replaced the rear pads, I have cleared the 2 DTC's in the instrument section with the iCarsoft i930, that I have. And every time I turn the Hang Over on........
BONG, BONG, BONG
"Check Brake Pads".

I've asked it nicely to go away, I've shouted at too, but it still BONG's HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My iCarsoft i930 will read the fault, it tells me that the brake linings are worn, but it wont let me reset. Or rather I can't find how to make it reset. Can someone please make it shutup, I'm now having nightmares, every time I close my eyes BONG

If some kind person out there, nearish to Milton Keynes, or the M1 J14 to J5, or the M25 J22 to J13, can make the dreaded BONG go away (with my iCarsoft i930, or something else you have) I will come to you. And I will be REALLY REALLY GRATEFUL. Oh and one last thing my dash is pixelated at the moment, I have the new silver ribbon to fix it, I just haven't got the b#lls to hack up the dash, yet, I'm using the car for work and I'm waiting for things to die down, just in case the Great God Sod intervenes and I have to get a replacement dash. did you replace the two sensors , if not thats whats probably causing the error.. ... - .- -.

And I am also told it is possible to put the sensors back incorrectly, but never done it so can't elaborate I'm afraid.

The car will continue to flag the warning up until the issue is resolved I'm afraid. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Hi Stan, so if I'm getting this right, once the Bong has gone off the sensor is carput and also needs to be changed. Which does pose the question why make then removable in the first place? I know that the rear sensor is ok, cos the pads weren't even half worn, but as it was all apart I changed them anyway.
As the front disc's are on there last legs all will be changed with in the next few weeks, so if I cut the sensor all should be OK?

No. If you cut them they will go open circuit which will just leave the fault showing.

Just replaced one (I cocked it up when I replaced discs and pads). It is really straightforward to replace aand costs about a tenner. You don't have to remove the caliper to do it. You just need to be careful and not force it.

If you are replacing the discs and pads your kit may include a new sensor.

No, if you cut the wire it will flag up low brake pads, you need to ensure it's fitted correctly and not worn, if that doesn't fix it it's a wiring issue, usually poor connections in the little black box in the wheel arch where the sensor goes in...

Mine came on a while ago and it does need new discs and pads but I haven't got round to fitting them.... funnily enough it doesn't bong at me, just puts the display up and the red brake light is on all the time.... Pete

I could live with the message and the light, its the Bong that gets me everytime!

^ are we sure about just cutting the cable to the sensor. The brake pad circuit is open circuit in the first place, it goes to closed circuit when the pad is worn and the sensor contacts the brake disc earthing it.
Cutting the wire to the pad sensor or removing the sensor and wire altogether should mean no fault can be displayed.
If a fault is being displayed it surely means the sensor or the sensor wire is earthed somehow.
Or could I be wrong?

Removing the sensor doesn't cure it. Ask me how I know.  John

The check brake pad message comes up when the circuit is open circuit.

Essentially, a signal travels down 1 wire from the IPC, through both sensors, then back to the IPC. If the signal does not make it back, the message is displayed.

If the message was displayed, and the sensors have been replaced, there is a reset procedure to clear the warning

That's what I thought, it looks only to be a single wire, unless it is a very thin coax. Most cars that I have dealt with have a single wire that shorts to earth when the pads are worn, but they do go on and off with the use of the bakes. It would appear that either the sensor is connected by a thin coax or when the ecu sees the first short to earth, it stays on and drives you mad! this would then require a reset from a fault code reader to put the light out, only mine reads it and then dose nothing. I know the pads were worn the car keeps telling me, I dont need the scanner to join in too

Ok disc and pad + poxy sensor replacement has just been moved up in the running list, but I will not be held responsible for how many 's appear in the update to this post if the blessed BONG is still present

trying to rest it without replacing the sensor won't clear it as the fault is still there. When you replace the sensor the fault should clear by switching the ignition on and off.

You will still need to use the code reader to clear the historical fault stored in the ECU although it won't be showing as a current fault. John

Sensor is cheap and easy, just snapped mine replacing some part worn pads and have to get a new one! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
