Sandy,

You raised the 'maths' point as a headline within this post.

1. If you would need to pay the same again, plus your 4.2SC for a 5.0, would that be getting you a 5.0 with similar mileage to your 4.2, which is an immaculate car that you know, that you've not had too long and reference which you can extend the LR warranty for £800 odd, without breakdown cover (a warranty that has so far served you well, e.g recent new gearbox)?

2. I understand that several hundred pounds can get the pulley/ performance upgrade done on the 4.2SC?

3. The 2010MY exterior conversion can be done professionally for in the region of between £3 and £4k?

4. If my understanding and arithmetic are correct re points 1 to 3, then for approx £5k as opposed to £14k, that's a fully fettled, warrantied, immaculate, FSH, completely upgraded 4.2SC (less the infotainment system) that should have enough power and charm to satisfy many people; and I've also interpreted from reading posts from seasoned professionals like Gary Elliot and CTC, that whilst people perhaps shouldn't commission the 2010MY conversion as 'an investment', there are good examples of people having pretty much got their conversion money back come resale time, if not that, then they are desirable to sell on.

Just some thoughts and questions specifically reference the 'man maths' aspect of your OP.

If the 5.0 is 'pulling' you though, apparently you won't be able to stop Wink Laughing

Thumbs Up

Compelling argument. Bow down

It is a dilemma I am going to look for a 5.0 l however I fear it take a while and in the meantime I am going to do the performance upgrades i.e. remap and top pulley as for the facelift not fussed either way it is the engine upgrade I am really looking for so on the topic of upgrades anyone used paramount or have any recommendations . Thumbs Up

Back to man maths, the real cost is the depreciation. Engine upgrades and facelifts loose loads and will never be as good as a later model with a better engine.

Sandy, I looked at Paramount but decided to use a local specialist called TL Jaguar in Arborfield.

I've heard good things about Paramount from those that have used them. Si. <This is my name.

Aside to views that a facelift will never be as good as the later models they aspire to replicate; and that people do them because they can and want to as opposed to being any form of 'investment'; on the 'man maths' train of thought, do 2010MY onwards facelift conversions actually 'lose money' though, I.e two side by side 2008 models will sell for the same amount of money regardless if one is in factory state and one is in facelifted state?

Well I have done loads and the result for me is always a faster sale with the same margin overall so I get the cost back and a quicker sale. Privately you may not get the full amount back but its possible.

I think with all things like that there has to be a cost for enjoyment so if a conversion upgrade is done then maybe it is unrealistic to expect to get all the cost back

Agreed IF I knew the conversion had been well done and in accordance with what a number of folk have outlined on this forum (e.g Gaz, etc). Otherwise, stock car vs messed with car and I'd go for the stock one.
