Went to see the car and do like it. The alloys look to small for it. Has anyone down the 5 stud conversion to get better alloys to fit ? What's the diference between the 4.0 and 4.0 hc. Tvr figures are total lies of there power claims

I did the 5 stud conversion on mine and fitted the spider alloys. It totally transformed the cars looks. It took a lot of doing as the disks and callipers also had to be changed. The full strip down also meant it needed a full alignment setup afterwards as the caster and camber is fully adjustable on these cars. You also have to fit spacers in the steering rack to reduce the lock slightly to stop the larger wheels fouling on the arches. Well worth doing though.

I managed to find a set of Ford Diamond cut RS 17s which looked like a large version of the stock alloys, they transformed the way it looked... 4.2 Supercharged Vogue SE

I have got a N reg 400. Have always wanted one and finally got one this year. It was a decision between a 911 (996) or the Chim and i am glad i went with the TVR. Every time i go out in it i get questioned about it and the usual "give it a rev!".
The reliability seems no worse than any other performance car ( have done 3000 trouble free miles since may ) but then again i would say its in the same category as the landrovers-i.e not to be owned by people who are afraid to look under the bonnet every so often Thumbs Up

As said above, the chassis is the weak spot but i have found that pre 97 cars (grey/silver chassis) seem to survive better for some reason than the later cars (white chassis). Engines are good old rover V8s and if looked after are reliable

The difference between 400 and 400hc was a couple of engine tweaks and a few extra BHP but i don't find mine lacking Thumbs Up

I have fitted 16" wheels all round (was 15"f 16"r) after doing a big brake conversion. But i also have a set of 17"18" wheels that i use for trackdays Cool

Car looks good Cool I still can't decide if I should scratch the tvr itch… I know it will be unreliable and cost lots to maintain but not many other cars will give you the same thrill

It is the same with most cars of this type, get a good one and it will be the best money you have spent. Get a bad one and you will soon fall out with it!
Mine has been faultless (upto now) and the only bits i have fitted have been for my own reasons not because they failed. For example the full front brake upgrade from 260-324mm with brembos cost me less than £200. Upto now the only other spending i will be doing is down to cosmetics which you can expect on any 20+ year old car

Looks good. How much roughly to do the conversion plus finding a good set of wheels and tyres

It's a few years since I did it but the figure of about £2000 comes to mind. The basic kit which included replacement hubs with 5 studs, discs which obviously also had to have 5 holes for the studs, new front callipers and the wheels and tyres all came from the TVR factory (that tells you how long ago it was!) the rest which was just really the rear callipers and carriers just came from a scrap yard. I spent a bit extra while I was doing it getting all the suspension re-bushed etc.

The interesting thing about this conversion kit is that it was supposedly created by TVR to get rid of a surplus of wheels and tyres they had. I'm not sure how true this is but I can believe if of TVR!
