Anyone been to the Dominican Republic recently?

We're off there at Christmas and I can't get a feel for which currency to take. Reading the web there are plenty of votes for both US$ and Dominican Pesos. I know the resorts will take anything but we do like to get out and explore the real places outside the resort so will need cash for that.

Anyone shed any light on this please?

Ta. Dom.

They all wanted USD when we went a while back, it's a terrible place for poverty, the slums they live in make you weep

We took a few hundred in $1 bills, for tipping etc, they seem to like them....

Lovely place for a holiday though, one of the best we have had in the Caribbean, did Grenada last time and that's not too good.... Pete

Ta muchly. Been asking round the office as well and the general consensus was US$ fo rmost things but a few Pesos for the odd occassion when necessary outside the hotel complex.

You really won't need them, everyone wants dollars...

We used the helicopter transfer to/from the airport, defo worth the bit extra as you really get to see some sights... Pete
