I do know that the TPMS valves can be expensive to replace and that pragmatic forum members have replaced them with traditional rubber valves.

Main dealers can physically do it but will not switch off your TPMS function, citing safety reasons. However, an IID tool can switch it off.

Can anybody throw any light on how old the ones are that snap/corrode i.e. if replaced when tyres are replaced would this stop the problem? Depends on mileage I suppose

Ours went at about 60k miles.

The new ones are also genuine LR but are reportedly zinc coated which is meant to avoid them becoming brittle/ corroding. I suppose longevity is also going to be affected by factors such as the conditions the car is driven in/ 'stored in' when not in use (salt/ acid rain/ muck/ road deposits).

Surely attention to detail in regular removal of dust caps and cleaning/ greasing the valve stems (even using Vaseline on the stems) would likely also help to preserve them, for just a few minutes extra of your time.

I don't think the issue is so much, make sure you get them fitted when the tyres are done to make it more cost effective as opposed to the genuine LR ones are meant to be a few hundred pounds, just to buy the valves, from what I recall.
