Of course the environmentalists who are best at shooting themselves in the foot is Greenpeace. I have been subjected to their vandalism on 3 occasions with ships. Best one was when they insisted on the ship I was serving in being inspected by the UK Coastguards at Southampton when they accused the ship of discharging untreated sewage into the port waters................ The ship wasn't, we have a biological treatment system and all that goes over the side is in fact water so pure you could ( if you didn't know where it originated!) drink it. As we were able to prove that the system had been in use nonstop for 3 years the inspection was called off, but our management requested an inspection of the nearby Greenpeace ship and the Coastguard found much to Greenpeace's embarrassment that the Rainbow Whatever was discharging untreated sewage into the port waters, the Captain was arrested and fined heavily. On another occasion. I was on a brand new ship straight from the builder's yard and certificated in compliance with all International regulations, especially the then new antifouling paint rules. During the night Greenpeace protesters came alongside in RIBs and painted a huge skull and crossbones on the new antifouling with ordinary paint and wrote something like say no to TBT based antifouling paint. Unfortunately for GP the ship wasn't painted with any TBT based antifouling as it's use was banned. The company got GP to pay for repainting the above waterline paint which was easy, the recoating of the antifouling however was a different matter as this paint has to be applied in controlled conditions and is only done in an enclosed dry dock - GP paid for the extra fuel that the ship was going to burn for the next 5years and fir the recoating at dry dock 5 years down the line. What this got them of course was lots of free publicity, even though they were in the wrong - they seem to keep a very lie profile these days. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
