I love Defenders and they're a lot of fun OFF-ROAD. On road Whistle

I went with a friend in his offroading for the weekend. Got back to town, and got in the FFRR to go home. It was like being in the Starship Enterprise at warp speed after the Defender. Mr. Green

withdrawal symptoms - continue

car is now with dealer for a month to resolve some additional issues including a misfire, especially when the car is cold. Other issues are:

- driver's heated seat not working - according to dealer it is now fixed
- intermittent noise from left rear wheel - apparently was the electronic rear diff actuator which was replaced
- as mentioned above - misfire which the dealer is struggling to diagnose. Thus far they've replaced spark plugs, swopped coil packs around, replaced tappet cover gaskets, checked for oil and water leaks without any success of resolving the issue.

However they promised that I'll have my car back on Monday.

In the meantime they've given me a 2014 Freelander diesel to use - nice car but not a fattie. Obviously better than the Defender 90 I had before.

What to do if they cannot resolve the misfire - should I push for engine replacement or look for another car

The misfire is a strange one, is it always the same cylinder or does it move around. Have the injectors and knock sensors been tested? All the wiring and connectors? Has the engine management ECU been reflashed with the most recent software? Have all the ECUs been reflashed? Has the fuel system been cleaned? Has compression been checked?

Don't give up too soon there are still things to be done that could resolve the problem. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Eugene

according to the dealer it is the same cylinder (# Cool; however they found a bit of oil on spark plug in cylinder #2. From time to time the engine management light (EML) also come on and stays on until the dealer resets it.

The cost for the repairs is not my worries - as the dealer will carry that. It is just that I miss my car.

@Paul: the noise was very intermittent, basically once-off and happened very rarely. The dealer's service manager described the noise as "sounded like something fell off the car - I almost $hit myself".

it almost fell as if the brakes were holding on for a bit and then release violently

did a trip of 750kms yesterday - can't describe the difference in ride comfort between the Fattie and the Freelander loaner I had.

Car drove beautifully - only issue was that EML came back on - however I had the cats removed and the code given indicates that could be the reason

If you have the cats removed and it brings on the EML try spacing the lambda sensors out (away using washers or alike) that usually solves the issue Thumbs Up
