A lot of us on this forum have personalised but very subtle number plates that mean something to us other than 'look at me, look at my name'
Not so with the RRS fraternity. I was in Mold N.Wales today and saw a RRS with SK**DAV as a number plate.

Just in case you don't know who the local boy is, he had removed the RANGE ROVER lettering on the bonnet and replaced it with SKIPPY DAVE.

To show he had a sensitive side to his nature the letter A had been replaced with a shiny red love heart. How nice. Travelling around in circles again.

i've got RR0 5TAN on mine so does that make me vain...  ... - .- -.

I like name number plates, they make sense. I do laugh at the DMW type plates on BMW's. They are a bit sad. Previously..

Unfortunately Range Rovers in general seem to be the worst vehicles for chav plates. How many tarted-up Sports don't have their plates butchered into something unintelligible?

I usually point out to those with Personalised plates that "My number plate is totally unique"


This arouses interest until I point out .....

But then again....that's the point...............they all are!!!!


However, if I had more money than the little sense I have...I may be tempted to go for a kn*bhead plate too.

Gents have you missed the point of this post? Personalised plates were not what made me think the RRS owner was insecure. I have a subtle personal plate myself.

It was the fact that the owner of the RRS had removed the 'RANGE ROVER' bonnet letters and replaced them with 'SKIPPY DAVE' His personal plate was obviously not enough to get noticed - hence insecure RRS owners  Travelling around in circles again.

It's funny how private plates start up for many reasons but once you've had one for a few years you don't feel a new car is yours until your plate is on it. We have matching plates on FFRR, SWMBOs Sunday Cooper S Cabrio and my CB1300 and they all feel part of the family. The good news is we ran out of matching plates so SWMBOs daily commuter still has its 13 plate fitted so this gets abused as it isn't one of the gang!!!

I guess it's quite sad really but it isn't hurting anyone and makes our cars our own.

We have plates as Riccarton said to make us happy, the revenue from plates is a good thing IMHO, if some chooses to change the look then they are in breach of a number of laws, them !!

The plate has to be 100% legal, right down to the 33mm between the number and the first letter. Extra kudos and is given for a cool plate on a shed, aka "A1" on a battered Rover Sterling, H1 on a knackered Avensis.

The plate can be the best ever but even a whiff of spacing and / or an extra bolt and it goes here. There are some real howlers, especially where the owner has had to explain at the bottom of the plate what it's saying. There is one forum member there who takes a picture of every mis-spaced number plate and sends it to the Police. I think he needs a shed!

A number of people where we are buy a brand new car, leave the new plate on for the first 12 months, then put their private plate on. Is that vain?

There's a white L322 in Glossop with "P A P E Y" slapped on the bonnet - it just looks plain stupid
