My oil change message came up the other day so i thought i would book it in for an oil service only as the next main service is not due for another 10,000 miles.

All booked in and i asked for an approximate cost so it didnt frighten me on the day - £417!!!!!

I nearly fell of the chair - so i asked politely - are you sure this is for the oil change only not for the gold plating of the engine bay!

Yes - this was the price - luckily I was persuaded when i bought the car to take out a service plan which i am told will cover this - pheww.

Likely to be correct but even in the good times you can easily shop around and get Dealers to compete on price. These days, they are desperate for business, make them earn it.

I was quoted much less than that for an Inspection 1 service by my local dealer, MUCH less. Discovery 4 HSE
