I want to discover the cause of a rattle in the rear trim surrounding the top tailgate. Can't be hard.
Its the grab handle part, the lower trim as shown here:

What I want to do is once it's off, the stick the thick sound deadening material I have left over from doing the Defender, to stop the plastic resonating so much. Discovery 4 HSE

So, with a modicum of effort I removed the trim panel and cleaned up the inside, then used leftovers from sound deadening my Defender, it's a sticky black thick foam with aluminium backing. It's very dense so absorbs panel rattle.

These plastic trims are so hollow and flimsy, it's no wonder they rattle over bumps and you get resonating plastic noises.

I filled the inside with the material then for good measure used a block of foam I had and cut some wedges, so that when it was put back together the air gap was also taken up. Then I used aluminium tape to seal between the material pieces too, neatens it up a bit.

Each tailgate light has a pathetic piece of foam surround and this is supposed to keep the panel from touching metal and resonating. It's not enough.

I also poked foam inside the side trims as you can see from my pics down below.

It ain't a pretty solution, but it works.  Discovery 4 HSE
