Hi guys
Just a quick bit of advice needed.
On my way to a garage to get a puncture repair and I cannot remember what suspension setting I need to put the car in to make it easiest to take the wheel off

Sorry for being a little lazy and not searching the site but I'm on an iPhone and it's a pain in the backside

Ok so off road height. I remember something about suspension travel and their jacks not being able to cope

But why tailgate open with hazards on out of interest?

Having a door open stops the car doing any suspension changes automatically, like trying to level out.

Though I'm no expert here. There have been a few discussions on it as you know.

Not sure why hazards.

Is more of this relating to the P38 days ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

tailgate open and hazards on is supposed to simulate a roadside breakdown and as said this switches off the suspension levelling..

my experiance,
ATS fitted my rims and used this process and i had no suspension problems or errors when the FF was taken off the jacks and me being a smartass the next time i had my fronts balanced i told them not to bother with the hazards [tailgate down though] and when let down off the jacks the FF 'thought' it was in high mode but in fact it was in standard..no problem when i drove off as it sorted itself out within seconds.. ... - .- -.

In my experience ( I am forever jacking my car up ) you don't need to do anything. Jacking up the suspension will extend and once returned to ground will appear to be in super off road height but this sorts itself out once driven.

Opening any of the four passenger doors will stop the suspension from doing anything, the tailgate does nothing, the hazards do nothing (this was on the P38).

The only specific instruction in RAVE ('02-05) is to be in P with handbrake on, but this is just safety stuff. .

I've read this with interest . . . . so much so that I did a search on wheel changing, I was astonished by the various views and advice given out
. . . and nothing in the WIKI either.
So, are there different procedures for different MY's, or is there a definitive way to change a wheel ?
I ask as I've never removed a wheel from either of my FF'S - never had to.
I have the Merc Sprinter jack and am off to France again this summer, so could with knowing.

Surely one only has to follow the car's handbook ? or is it not as simple as that . . . .

As Joe says, only the doors stop the suspension from trying to level, the boot does nothing, either top or bottom of it.... neither does the bonnet....

Mines up and down like Joe's either on a jack or a ramp and it doesn't matter what height your in it will sort itself out after a short time when you put it back on the ground....

DO NOT get under your car unless you have a door open, and a stand under it, the suspension could drop to it's bumpstops, and unless you can bench press 2 1/2 tons your in trouble..... Pete

when I had my new tyres fitted they opened the tailgate and put the hazards on ,I told them it didn't do any good
but the bloke on the desk said oh its a precaution and looked at me like I was an idiot , but never seen one in the dealers or indies jacked up with hazards on , just idiots who listen to some armchair expert, theyll probably swap a
cow for magic beans if you ask them.
