hi, I have a l322 tdv8 MY10 - ive noticed a whistling noise around 70mph which stops when I turn off the aircon, anyone know what the problem is and how to rectify (apart from don't use the aircon at 70mph !) thx

I have exactly the same. Dealer still has the car but are struggling to trace the cause.

Yup, same here...it's on the drivers side though.
It doesen't do it all the time. Tried to shut the aircon off but it keeps on doing it.

Lucky. Its not a silver VSE is it ?. I had the same problem with mine, sold it in the end, the problem was never resolved by anyone. The only way I could make it less was to adjust the hot/cold little wheel thing below the dash vents.

I have something similar - I reckon it's either something stuck in the vent system or a bearing beginning to go as it only happens at particular fan speeds and usually when turning right thus putting a different stress on the system.

Very strange, I got this same thing happen to me this morning on the way to Luton. Whistling sound around 75mph and when I turn on AC, the AC had a small whistle and then it all went away (but something smelled bad for 5 mins). Mine happened whilst going in a straight line on motorway.

Drove to north Wales last week and no noise whatsoever.... Very strange going ons.

just to add to my prev post, you just reminded me that in the early days of the VSE the air quality was very poor and stale so much so that it took your breath away and you had to drive on ocassions with the windows wide open or basically die.
It turned out the printed circuit board thing had blown at some part of it and the fan motors didn't know what to do,
Vents open or shut air con on of off, it was replaced under warranty, dash board out kind of thing but never really worked properly ever again. That was on a 2010 my car.

was out in the car today and no whistling noise to be heard ! maybe there was something stuck in vent earlier - does anyone know whereabouts the aircon intake vent is ?

I think it's the grill at the back of the bonnet just in front of the windscreen.

a friend has suggested it 'could' be the air filter..might be worth taking it out and see what the result is. ... - .- -.

I had this problem too. It's something to do with the air recirculation flaps - fix is to turn the 'Auto' mode of the air circulation off.

Tried that and it makes no difference.

The dealer is now changing the heater box but admits it's more in hope than expectation.

I'm getting mine back from the detailer tomorrow so will test this again and see what happens. MY11 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - "African Queen"
