Warranty Direct - Praise where it is due.

Over my time on here I have seen a fair few questions about aftermarket warranty companies but I have to say my continued experience of Warranty Direct is one of straight forwardness and fair play. I would recommend to anyone who is thinking of using them that they are certainly worth considering in your choice list.

My 07 TDV8 has decided it wants a new steering lock / ignition lock ECU, (not sure of proper title) and the bill including VAT and fitting is just over £3,000.00 and there was no funny business from them about paying at all when they have already paid out on other things.

As long as you play the game by their rules which is made clear in black and white from the start, they play fair with you. So I just thought I would post this so that the next time someone is searching under warranties they may find this post helpful. They are certainly worth considering and based on my three years experience of them, I would highly recommend them.

The fact that a well maintained car should need one of these at this age is pretty unimpressive though, Land Rover, what are you playing at!!! 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 TDV8

Cheers for the info guys...I was just about to sign with LR for another year @ £1300 + but spotted your post.

Having compared the policies ,the WD one appears far more comprehensive and includes wear and tear item cover also ( but not on consumables, pads, discs etc) . They offered me a years full cover with breakdown recovery with a £50 excess for £820 or 2 years for £1420 so took the 2 year option knowing you can cancel at the end of year 1 and get a 90% refund of year 2's premium .

They're arranging for their consultant mechanical engineers (Scotia?) to make home visit within 48hrs to ensure the vehicle does not exhibit any current faults then it'll be on cover immediately...£40 for the inspection but it apparently means you get enhanced cover as its prestige vehicle.

Hopefully I'll never have to make a claim, but if I do it sounds like they play fair.

Nice one, that is about the ballpark price of what I paid. Just as a heads up, a mate had a V8 Jeep which he took a WD warranty out on and they sent someone out to inspect it who advised a small leak off the steering box, so that was put down as a pre exisiting condition. About a month later it went in to the Jeep garage for a service and they said the steering box was 100% OK and not leaking so WD just took it off as an existing condition there and then.

I only add this to show the level of fair play and if the people that come out and assess it say something you disagree with it is only a case of getting a reputable dealer to check and say this is not the case. Cant say fairer than that.

I think they just have a list of third party inspectors who they send the nearest one out to you.

Hopefully in two years time you will feel you wasted your money as your car has not missed a beat at any point!! 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 TDV8

Have the Warranty Direct Lite policy £135 full labour and half the parts (Because of the age and milage)
Paid out for gearbox with very little fuss but you do need to dot the I's and cross the T's on the information they require.
I have taken the same out on the TF just in case! Mine was a blue one! Smile

Is this the one advertised by Quentin Wilson. If it is, they made my mate jump through hoops to claim for a replacement TD6 gearbox. Wouldn't take the findings of an Independent land rover mechanic , sent there own man who still wasn't happy even though the vehicle had no gears !! He then wanted a strip down at owners cost so that a third engineer could look at it. Mean while he sent copy after copy of service history and bills but having bought it used, couldn't offer a great deal from it's early days which greatly concerned them. They coughed up in the end but only after the threat of legal action.

DaveK...that's "Warrantywise" but they'll all want to be sure its legit to a more or lesser degree, but have heard WD play fair when I have googled them...only time will tell GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

As said above, that is Warrantywise, nothing to do with Warranty Direct. 2011 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 TDV8

I have to make a decision in the next few days between the LR Extended, LR Select or, indeed, Warranty Direct. Although WD seems to cover most things they only cover 70% of the cost of parts (reducing to 60% when the FF has its birthday in October). Any thoughts?
Tricky... Confused

nwmgc ...You can pay a small extra premium to take you up to 100% Parts and 100% Labour cover..If you get an online quote then ring them, you seem to get a negotiated deal but you may need to pay to have the car inspected then @ £40

My online quote was £100 more than the phone price which is opposite to what you'd expect

The FF got inspected by Scotia on behalf of Warranty Direct this morning and........got a full clean bill of health (as I expected having just had a service and MOT)..As it happens, the chap who came to inspect it has just got a 59 plate Sport himself so we ended up waffling for an hour about the various issues of ownership.

hopefully i will have no need to put a claim in Very Happy GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus

I am now up to £780 for the warranty + £100 to get 100% on the parts + £70 inspection fee = £950
LR Select is £855.

Still can't make my mind up Embarassed

^ It's tricky, alright !
I had a WD warranty on my previous Td6 from 75k to 92k over 18 mths. The only problem was a replacement battery !
I also looked again at WD for my current car, but the T & C's had changed since my first making it unnecessarily expensive due to items I didn't need. I decided to go down the piggy bank route.
I've an identical car to you (even the colour !) and now take a pragmatic approach.
My car is at 87k and I've covered 6k in the last twelve months. I have it serviced and maintained at a specialist who I've taken Land Rovers to for the past twenty years - so I trust them implicitly.
I look at it this way - our car model comes up infrequently for major faults - it has a bulletproof engine and gearbox so long as they are correctly maintained.

I'd rather spend on preventative maintenance than to an insurance companies shareholders !
Can't imagine this helps your decision, though . . . . !

Thumbs Up

PS Other than servicing, I've had to have a new windscreen, battery & radiator in the last year. A warranty would not have covered most of this as they are age related standard FF failures.
Love the car still ! Where do you go after one of these . . . ?
