HSE stereo upgrade, best option ?

Hi, looking to upgrade the stereo unit in my 03 HSE. I have the non sat nav, CD player unit. I have been looking at the Chinese DVD sat nav units designed as direct replacement. Has any body used these ? Are they worth the £400+ ? Is there a different/better option ?
I need iphone connection, DVD player, sat nav & possibly DAB radio etc
Any advice would be very welcome before I part with hard earned cash !!

Thanks

Mines had one for 18 months no problems tbh, just time consuming to fit but easy fit if your into electrics or stereo fittings, I've done fittings for years and this ones not hard, there's some on fleabay for 350 ish now, you need to add a tv tuner and dab as mines analogue but some are digital you can buy, your not getting a top bang and olufson but me as a duffer it's fine and looks good, USB and all the bits are fine, I've pics in my gallery, I've got three sat nav cards to use depending on mood, be on road is good and cheap and I use primo 8 , it came with polnav. _____________________________________________________

Within reason, speakers are more important to sound quality once you're over a minimum threshold. If the head unit is decent and compatible, there's no excuse not to sound great.

if you mean changing the radio tuner to a dab enabled one then no ..the newer 2009 onward FF's with dab as standard used a different MOST than the MOST on the 2005-2009 FF's.. ... - .- -.

Hi, have been out today looking at double din units instead of the Chinese plug play.
They look much better quality more expensive but worth it I think. Has any body got a link to the facia plate needed for double din on my HSE non sat nav ?
Also has anybody that has done this found any major headaches that make it not worth doing ?
Thanks

I've been looking at the andrive system (http://www.andrive.co.uk).

Will hopefully be going to their premises at some point in the next two weeks. The AN39 system is the one that fits the early BMW based range. My cousin has phoned them up in the past and spoke to them about range rover branding etc and they said they can do that.

They look pretty good and get decent reviews on BMW forums.

Can't comment other than that as I haven't had a play yet.

Facia plate for a BM 5 series e39, toughest part is making room for the headunit to fit. The installer who did mine used a soldering iron to remove enough of the plastic as the existing units aren't that deep.you will also need a piece of ply to bring the unit forward so it fits the facia plate. The guy didn't do this to mine and it would have looked better had he done so. Happy to post pics , but am away for a couple of nights , had to borrow my old dears crv as the ff is waiting on a new alternator!

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like double din can be done but needs a bit more work & a good fitter !!
Very interested in the andrive system mentioned above, does this fit space in the dash with no facia needed ? Also is the wiring either plug n play or pretty simple to adapt including steering wheel controls ?
Looks a really nice system, any body know any more ?

hi, thanks for everybodys help, but I am still undecided !!! spoke andrive today and there unit is a straight plug play no facia required and with DAB cost about £750-£800 plus fitting. For the same money I could get a double din pioneer, kenwood etc with similar functions just no digital tv and more hassle fitting but these are proven units.
which way to go ? a lot of money spend want to make the right decision.

Well I think I am going to bit the bullet and go for the andrive e39 with DAB module added. Looks very versatile with android system and as it is plug play I am told no facia, dash cutting etc is needed. So before I blow £800 and find a fitter I trust to install it has anybody got any advice or experience I could make use of ?
