I was lucky enough to be involved with the official launch of the L322. Not that good on names but remember talking to Gerry McGovern who was also the designer of the original Freelander. He explained to me that at the time they were designing L322, the idea was to get the feel of a luxury yacht interior in to the new range rover. Hence the strong wood overtones and complimentary leather trim. Having nvere been on a luxury yacht, I had to take his word for it.

There's a prototype L322 in the Dunsfold Collection, as they say probably the only one remaining as they were supposed to be crushed.

We'll at least we know where the L495 came from as well. It's the 3rd picture (described as "radical front end treatment").
