Started getting the "Trans failsafe prog" warning every now and then and I am now getting worried that it is a sign of a major gearbox failure.

I can't narrow down when the warning appears, it appears to be very random and at low speed in traffic. Because I am in traffic, I can't tell if there has been a change in the way the gearbox is working to date. There does not seem to be any difference.

I also get the HDC and suspension inactive warnings after about 15 to 30 minutes driving, but have not had time to investigate this further.

Before I have to take it to a dealer and pay out money I don't have, is there anything I can do to narrow down what the problem might be.

The battery is new, so I think I can elliminate that.

I might also add that I am having no luck finding a Indy in the NW Norfolk area.

Any thoughts or advice very much welcome.

Would be tempted to check the alternator voltage output. If it's on its way out, it may be putting just enough juice into the battery to keep it charged, but not giving enough that the electronics are going haywire.

If you have the chance, put a voltage tester over the battery contacts with the engine running and see what voltage you're getting. Should ideally be around 14 volts...anything less than 13 and you'll be getting the electronics problems

Got the trans failsafe prog a couple of weeks ago, car went into limp mode, but I was parked on a very
steep sideways slope previous having dropped swmbo at a school reunion car was leaning forward and sloping toward
nearside, went a couple of miles to mum and dads, got back in car and hav'nt had warning since.
dont know if it has any bearing but thought I would pass it on.

Do you do short journeys? FF's don't like those short runs. I had a similar fault even with a new battery fitted! All I have done is charge the battery on charger and no fault has reappeared and this was months ago when it was wet and cold. These FFs do like a batteries though, worth checking what out put your getting from the alternator. If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!

I have been doing very short journeys of late, no more than about 3 miles. Nursing an injury so can't use my motorbike at the moment.

I hope it is a battery problem, can't afford a huge repair bill

I had the same message pop up last week. I hadn't used the FF for a few days, prior to this was 2 short 4 mile journeys and then it was parked on the drive, I took it for a good run and put the battery on trickle charge, so far so good, (touching wood here). 2003 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 on Gas
