Have you had it plugged in and the fault codes read at all? Might be worth a shot to see if there's an electrical fault or something easily traced.

I had what's sounds a very similar problem, was convinced it must be serious but found this and completely sorted;

Thanks guys, there were no gearbox fault codes found last week so sadly not easily traced, although I am liking the suggestion that some WD40 may solve it.

With suspension up to highest you can get underneath quite easily. I think it's on the drivers side but if you can get someone to move the gear changer whole you are underneath you can't miss it. Give it a good few squirts and go up and down the gears.

Yep I had this a year ago , went nuts with some PTFE spray and all was good again |
