Richie,

I am no expert but I have been through this myself and I remain unconvinced about the engine remap advice.

I too had the engine over rev (engine flare) between 3rd and 4th and (with huge thanks to RRPhil) all I have done was replace ONE EDS4 solenoid and touch wood it has behaved without fault ever since. Nothing else has been replaced (other then the ATF and filter).

Hopefully Phil will be along at some point but could you not replace the solenoids and see how it behaves? If it turns out that you really do need a whole Mechatronic then you can use them anyway.

Some (bad as a mate was holding the camera) video of how my car was behaving is below. See the rev flare on 3rd to 4th and often throwing it into gearbox fault mode and regularly putting the EML on.

Ok then, the RR has been back in. A tech specialist with diagnostic tool has assessed through diagnostics and driving the car that the Mechatronic unit is corrupt after a previous owner had the engine remapped. After driving it he stated that there was an over rev between 3-4 and no hold on 5, this had been to engine remap fail to improve the power.

It is correct that the mechatronic unit IS linked with the 6 speed onwards and the VIN. Therefore a new mechatronic unit @ £850+ vat is required. Big Cry Big Cry

Could this have just been replaced prior to the gearbox, if I had of known the problem...??? Who knows, I'm starting to save the pennies, well pounds.

Guys thank you for all your help, Bow down Bow down

Richie

In your first post you said you took it to a LR specialist who diagnosed the gearbox and you got it changed somewhere else, did the garage that replaced it diagnose that it needed changing??

If they did then sue them, if they didn't sue the LR specialist, there is no way you should have to pay for the box if there was nothing wrong with it even if they do say it's because the car was remapped.... why didn't they diagnose it properly first time and save all the money...

It only costs £50 to take someone to the small claims court and you can do it all on line...

Give it a go, what have you got to lose... Pete

I would start with the EDS change first as it is cheap and in line with the exact problem the others and I had. Next the ecu could be re-flashed with the latest software.

Don't replace the Mechtronic now try the above first and let RRPhil help you as well, he is brilliant with this stuff!!! MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!
